The Economic Case to Boycott Black Friday and Cyber Monday

There has been a lot of promoting and debating boycotting shopping on Black Friday, and I would add Cyber Monday. This is because of the Grand Jury's decision not to indict Officer Darren Wilson, in the shooting of Michael Brown, in Ferguson, Missouri.  Black Friday is given this moniker from the business metaphor of "being in the black." 

Being in the black means when a business it is profitable (red lnk on a financial ledger indicates expenses and losses while black ink is associated with profits.)  Boycotting throughout the country to me is a better response than rioting and looting out of feelings of anger and frustration in my opinion.

I feel Blacks and other people of conscience should Boycott Black Friday and Cyber Monday and support Black Business and neighborhood businesses those days. We can't just be just against something we have to be for something as well.

While some say a two day boycott will make little economic impact to make a difference I just don't agree.  I feel this is the start of a much larger movement than even Michael Brown, and Ferguson.

I feel this boycott is the beginning of a movement to stop the militarization of police departments and a occupationist attitude by the managers of these institutions.  The brutality of police departments and the expansion of the prison industrial complex for profit has to be stopped.

Furthermore, it will help Blacks and those in poorer communities and inner cities look to develop economic, education, and technological initiatives to further community development. With the Internet and social media we can use ecommerce payment systems to raise money and awareness to fund community owned and cooperative businesses.

Hopefully the two day boycott is symbolic and sparks a different mentality towards more reinvesting in our community. If you unify and boycott two days you can also recycle dollars to reinvest all year long. 

We gotta start some where...

The reason a 2 day boycott would make an impact is because retail business make 5% to 15% of their yearly income on those two days. Most retail businesses have a profit margin of just 15%.

So these two days are critical to their business profits. So by boycotting corporate retail chains you would either wipe out their profits for the year or seriously make a dent in it.

You can't just vote or have social activism without economic clout. Political power without economic power is no power at all.

In this country the economic powers call the shots.  So a boycott would get their attention and let them know to persuade police departments that businesses won't be as usual in a chaotic unruly social environment.

Blacks used the Internet to help raise 80 million dollars a month for Barack Obama's 1st President bid. How about we make the same effort to raise money to revitalize our communities with economic development.

When you own and control the economics in your neighborhood you can also have more influence over police departments, hire your own people, put pressure on and finance your own politicians, and garner more respect from other ethnic groups from a position of strength.  I think it is a good move. Why Did it Take 30 Years for the Rape Charges to Blow UP on the Cos?

Yo Clueless listen Spank keeps it real. Let me give you a story. I started dating a nice intelligent professional woman. One day she comes over my house after a trip with friends.

She confides in me that a friend of a friend tried to sexually assault her during a prior weekend trip. I just started dating her and didn't know her that well or her friends at all.

I tried to get her to take action and report this scumbag but she refused. She didn't want the drama. She wouldn't tell me who the guy was.

I tried to tell her "she is putting other women in the future at risk by not speaking out and confronting this loser." But she wouldn't let me get involved and I didn't know her family and friends to help her. My point is traumatized people do strange things.

My female friend who was sexual assaulted (purportedly fought off the attacker) had a background as an executive social worker. You would think someone with her background could have dealt with her trauma in a more proactive way. However, this is obviously not the case with sexually abused women. My friend will probably take her story to the grave in secrecy.

I don't know if the Cos did these horrific and cowardly acts or not. Quite frankly it doesn't look good. However, I see too many lies and fabrications on the Internet so I will reserve judgment for now. But why did the stories take 30 years to blow up and surface?

This story of Cos was out for a long time I heard but could be suppressed by the major media because he made 100s of Billions of dollars for them. It can't be suppressed anymore with the Internet and the viral nature of social media.

The major media can't afford to be behind social media stories anymore and therefore sensational stories have to be circulated to drive site visitors and make freaking ad dollars. A great major media story is always a Black man's mug shot next to a headline. Sign of the times.

Welcome to the d@mining age of New Media where you have thousands of cable stations, mags & rags, community papers, and countless websites or blogs all looking for the next hot story to go viral. Again people love bad news with a bruthas mugshot next to a headline. And now they will have plenty of it.

If you are a person who's got some "cray cray" problems going on it might be a good time to get some help. Spanky is a freak so that's why I stay the hell away from people.

Nobody gonna be accusing the Spank of anything because I keep my hands in my pocket and stay home. Hell Clueless don't even leave your house anymore you're being tracked with your cell phone every where you go. LOL!

Yo bruh 1st pull your pants up and don't get yo panties all in a bunch. Us ole guys wouldn't even have a chance with young women if you'd man the hell up!

Maybe if you start by calling your girlfriends something like sweet heart, baby, or honey rather than b*tch, hoes, or "my n*gga" you'd be on the rode to recovery and we'd stay in our lane.

Maybe if you weren't blasting lyrics about killing, dissing, and selling drugs from your rides you could pick up some dymes my main man.

Why are Older Black Guys Dating Younger Women?

There is a bit of controversy about Solange Knowles and her considerably older husband. I've read some women say "they couldn't go out with a man old enough to be their father."

However, I look at the older man younger woman from a different contrarian perspective.  In my experience this is a complex issue.  I wish Solange the best on finding love with an older man.

Her husband is in excellent shape. I see guys in their 30s who are out of shape, couldn't punch threw a paper bag, and so anemic from drug and alcohol usage it's pathetic.  Basically if a guy takes care of himself in respect to fitness and health age is just a number.

And ironically these same young dudes think they're some kinda of hard core gangsta. In fact I also find younger women the ones who are more actively looking and open to relationships.

Younger Black males who are getting their social graces from gangsta rap and video games are almost forcing young black women to consider older black guys who are more inclined to have some chivalrous values.  I mean what educated and self respecting Black woman wants her man calling her a B*tch or "my nigga" as a term of endearment?  How many well raised women want to walk down the street with a dude saggin?

Also as women age they seem to become more cynical or judicious about being in relationships so what happens is guys in their late 40s and 50s end up sometimes with women in their 30s almost by default.  I get women in their mid 30s who are more interested in being in relationships with me than women in my own age group.

Go figure? I've given up on understanding women. You ladies are a mystery to me I guess just like guys might seem clueless to you.

Also in a recent article from Slate.com it makes the point some high powered executive women are marrying older guys who are even retired who can take care of the kids.  They suggest marrying older men to advance their careers especially if he is in a post career stage of his life.  What can I tell you life is Crazy!

Why do Black Men Increasingly Date Women of Other Ethnic Groups?

Since the European beauty standard in America is the most dominate there is a lot of truth that Black and men from other ethnic groups favor women who reflect that standard.  However, men from different ethnic groups do also appreciate dark skinned and Black women.

Just because people see rich or even "afrocentric or concious" Black men with women from other ethnic groups doesn't mean it's because of social conditioning.  Some men may actually fall in love with a woman from another ethnic groups.  It may just be an issue of demographics rather than psycho-graphics.  I'll give an explanation of what I mean. 

Many women consider men approaching them on the street these days "street harassment." So I use online dating sites at times.

Ironically,although my preference would be a sista like Lauren Hill, India Arie, or Lupita Nyongo'o I get just as many white, Hispanic, and Caribbean women interested in dating me. Women who look like the women I mentioned above are a very small group of women in the Black community - very slim pickens.

I don't think it's because of me personally. I think the numbers in dating these days just favors women from larger ethnic groups.

Blacks in the US just aren't having enough children to sustain their significant numbers. If it wasn't for people in the Caribbean and Africa immigrating here there would be an even smaller Black population.

BTW the white population in the US is shrinking too for instance in a month in 2013, I forgot which one, more whites died in the US than were born for the 1st time in US history.  I don't think there is a large percentage or ratio of white or Latina women looking to date Black men necessarily. But a small percentage of a larger demographic can skew dating numbers in their favor.

I know numerically speaking although I have a preference, given the numbers, if I'm open to dating a person based on their intrinsic qualities, I probably statistically speaking these days will end up with a Latina or Caribbean woman. Then I can just see people saying "that Kamau fronts the cultural conscious sistas but is dating a Latina or multi-ethnic Caribbean chick."

But honestly there are just a lot more of these ladies to date and who show an interest in me and this probably happens to other black guys too.  In fact this dating game may just turn out to be more of a numbers game.

On November 17, 2014 National Unfriend Day

Oh I understand yesterday was like National "Unfriend Day." I lost like 25 digital friends. I never lost so many in a day before.

Well if you're gonna unfriend me be my guest. Good bye and good freaking riddance.

I need to spend more time with real friends any way. They're in short supply and many at my age are either sick or dying.

One of my best friends and business associates is on life support and in a very imminent condition to make his transition. He was one of the most positive bruthas and would do almost anything for me. I wish I had more time to spend with him.

So If people unfriend you this week don't take it as a loss. Take it as a gain of your time and energy.

In fact spend more time with the people you love and love you! Life is too short for the superficial pretense.

Who Should Blacks Support Politically

I think Blacks need to spearhead a 3rd truly progressive party. The Dems are spineless and the GOP is political suicide.

I think both parties are inimical institutions and retrograde towards Black or Middle class peoples interests. I think both parties should be unseated. They both suck.

I think we should start a long arduous process to establish a 3rd progressive political party that would eventually push campaign reform and get the money/lobbyists/special interests out of politics. Both parties are getting us no where fast.

If the GOP takes all branches of government because progressive people are demoralized and stay home in the next election too the GOP will destroy the country worst than they did with the great recession.
